Program:   Project Home Mission Initial Posting: May 28, 2003
Agency:   Mid-Iowa Community Action Last Revised:Aug 23, 2007

Purpose

Mid-Iowa Community Action established Project Home Mission to promote partnerships with area churches throughout Central Iowa to help low-income families become self-sufficient through both Project Home Mission and the Family Development and Self-Sufficiency Program.

Description

Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) has a unique partnership with 23 area churches through its Project Home Mission program.  Churches provide sponsorships for either a "FaDSS match", where donations go to help co-fund the FaDSS (Family Development & Self-Sufficiency) program, or are used to fund the MICA Project Home Mission program, a service available for families who are in need of or are seeking family development services, but do not qualify for other services.

Project Home Mission has been helping low-income families for more than a decade, through the generous support of dozens of churches. Project Home Mission helps support MICA's family development programs, which strive to help low-income families become self-sufficient. MICA staff meet with participating families in their homes to assess their challenges, help the family set goals, and assist them with finding the resources they need.

A quarterly report on families are sent to the sponsoring church. Additionally, "The Messenger", the Project Home Mission newsletter, is published and distributed to churches semi-annually with information about the program, family success stories and partnerships with churches.

Outcomes

Project Home Mission brings in over $25,000 each year.
