Creative Approaches to Training and Technical Assistance
for CAAs
The Community Action Partnership, under a grant from the Office of Community Services - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is working to develop recommendations from the community action network for creative approaches to training and technical assistance to assist the network in serving low-income families and communities in these times of growing need.
The Partnership has started this process by conducting two facilitated group sessions. Participants were drawn from the full constellation of players in the network. Most importantly participants represented a wide range of local community action agencies, diverse in geographic location, size, structure and focus. Participants were also drawn from leaders of state community action agency associations, state offices, and national community action organizations. Click here for a copy of the findings from the first two facilitated group discussions.
Join our webinar from 4 - 5 PM EDT on Wednesday, April 8th

Mar 25, 2009 at 11:40 AM I will be unable to attend the webinar as we are preparing for our federal review of our Head Start program.
I would very much like to see training modules developed that are less than 10 pages, have a pre-test and or a post test that is a self assessment. These could be done on a variety of topics and used for training for staff. We always think that we have to sit staff down and lecture them for training. Give them the handout in their mailbox, let them take the test for the training and turn into the HR department to be documented. Have discussion groups online or webinars that match the topics of the modules scheduled way in advance so those that want more in depth information can get it.
Just an idea

Apr 6, 2009 at 8:44 AM I too am preparing for our Head Start review and will be unable to attend. However, Laura is right 'on-track' with my thoughts about having training modules, pre-tests and post-tests. Our public school system is doing it with child abuse and neglect training, and Kids Central has been noted as a model for this. We want to do it with Head Start because of the limited time and cost of training.
